Twelve MISA students went to China to take part in the International Maths and Science Olympiad (IMSO). Six students for science and six for mathematics competed with students from 22 different countries. This competition has been going on for fifteen years and it is the first year that Myanmar is represented. It was very challenging for our students to compete with so many more experienced contestants but still, with perseverance and teachers’ guidance, they achieved good results.
The competition took place over several days and included theoretical exams, experiments and exploration. In the end, three of our students won medals; one silver for mathematics (Aung Khant Hein) and two bronze for science (Bhone Khant Zaw and Su Eaindray Tun).
Students also had the chance to visit landmarks and cultural sites, and performed a traditional Myanmar dance at the culture festival. On one day, they took a high-speed train to Shanghai for sightseeing.
Overall, the whole trip was a great experience for our young students. They made many friends from around the world, learned a lot about Chinese culture and successfully represented Myanmar.
